Finally, we got to spend the weekend with Bella, Leighton and Collier! It was a lot of fun for us all. Granna spent the night with us, too! We celebrated E & T's birthday when they got back from their Auburn game getaway. Leighton scored a goal at her first game. She did great. Bella's team won as well. Way to go girls!!

What was her spine curvature before surgery? Has it improved a lot?
How come she had a trach? Was that due to her spinal curvature or was that something else? Nick had small lungs too but for some reason, they compensated for themself and grew downward and out -- strange, but it works.
Nick had an AP fusion of just a few vertebrae at 2, which gave us 8 good years without this last surgery (which was awful, but glad it's over).
Kathryn,
Caroline has a trach because she's a difficult intubation. She can breathe w/o it, but due to her surgeries we chose to keep it as losing her airway is one less thing to worry about! Honestly, I don't rememebr what her curve was before surgery I just know that she straightened up and her lung capacity improved tremendously. Now her curve is worse--due to her kyphosis and she's O2 dependent during the night. It's an uphill battle! Caroline's spine was straight as a board until age 3 and her lungs were "normal." The VEPTR was to improve her lung function. I'll have a lot more information after her VEPTR revision on 9-24 and will update you then!
