Caroline's scheduled to have her VEPTR revision on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Scottish Rite. She'll remain on O2 until then. We're praying this surgery will improve her lung capacity. She told me yesterday that she couldn't wait to have her surgery because it would help her breathe better. We're on it! Pre-op with pulm is next week. SP

we wanted to do VEPTR for Nick but he was not a candidate. I'm kind of glad we just did the one-surgery fusion because the VEPTR seems like there are so many surgeries. How many total will she have to have?
Kathryn,
Fusion was/is not an option for Caroline because it would halt her spine growth and she's way too young and small for that just yet. She would have a growing body but fused ribcage w/tiny lungs which could cause a host of problems for a her in the future. While numerous (she's had three) surgeries are not the ideal situation, they have bought us time, and hopefully a vent free future! I do not regret our decision. Thank you for your concern. Shannon
